The private correspondence of these women consists of more than two hundred letters, around twenty of which were written in Molins de Rei or refer to the town. This private, family, and female epistolary allows us to gain insight into the daily lives of noblewomen of this century, their customs and behaviour, their family life, and also their business affairs.

Talk by Bea Porqueres: “Sofonisba Anguissola, Renaissance painter”
Friday 6th March
7 pm
Free
Past and present are intertwined: today we can celebrate 8 March, International Women’s Day, because there were women who paved the way in defending women’s dignity and freedom. Most of these women remain unknown and anonymous; however, a minority are remembered by name and for their achievements, such as the painter Sofonisba Anguissola, born in Cremona, who lived at the Spanish court of Philip II, and whose works are now held in museums around the world, including the Museo del Prado in Madrid, which devoted a major exhibition to her in 2019. In addition to her paintings, enough archival documents survive to reconstruct her life — a life that was, indeed, most fascinating.
The event will take place in the La Gòtica hall. Free activity with limited capacity.
